Richard Allen Strong
(See WHO'S WHO IN SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING / MIDWEST / SAFETY)
The author-inventor was born and raised in Detroit and was employed with Cadillac Motor
for several years, while serving as an aircraft mechanic in the Naval Air Reserve.
His first solo was in a Piper Cub in 1950 and he also flew Aeronca Champions.
He joined the Air Force, trained as a single-engine jet instructor,
flew Cessna O-1Fs as a Forward Air Controller and eventually flew as a
Command Pilot in multi-engine transports (C-45, C-47, C-131, U-3).
He is now an instrument-rated Commercial Pilot.
He studied Aerospace Engineering at the University of Michigan, under Prof. Ed Lesher,
who held several world records for light aircraft.
He retired from active duty and continued working in Air Force aerospace research
and development until retirement from Civil Service in 1992.
He has applied his knowledge acquired while performing System Safety Engineering on
hundreds of projects in research and development and flight testing to developing
the StrongMobile aircars.
Experience Summary:
- 1957-1961. Mission Pilot in Convair T-29.
- 1964-1968. Military active duty in the Air Force Systems Command;
assigned to Space Systems Division,
Communications Satellite Test & Deployment Office for System Safety;
- 1966. Forward Air Controller in Southeast Asia;
- 1969-1971. Air Force Systems Command Inspector General, System
Safety Office, ( Contributor to MIL-STD-882 on System Safety )
- 1972-1974. Air Force Systems Command Aeronautical Systems Division
-- Reconaissance & Electronic Warfare Office and
-- Deputy for Engineering Group Leader for System Safety Engineering.
- 1966 - U.S.Air Force. Combat as Forward Air Controller in O-1Fs;
assisted in development and implementation of interdiction tactics.
- 1974-1975 Global Graphics assigned to Textron Bell Aircraft.
Senior System Safety engineer on XV-15 Tilt Rotor Research aircraft.
- 1975 Lockheed Research and Development. Senior Engineer on
High Energy Laser for ships and unmanned reconnaisance aircraft.

Test Wing Safety Office. Lead System Safety Engineer.
- 1983-1992 Wright Laboratory; Chief of Safety & Environment
- 1976-1992 Acted as President of a non-profit scientific research charitable
organization with hundreds of members and as Editor of its monthly Journal.
- 1992-PRESENT Established proprietorship, Safety Analysis Systems Company to
provide consultant services. The main activity is developing personal computer
software for managing and documenting system safety and related activities.
The software may be used with common office-type PC software.
This activity was gradually replaced by
extensive research and development of a combination airplane and automobile.
The aircar project design and construction of various mockup models has
absorbed most of resources in promoting the project. More information is
posted on the website: http://www.strongware.com/dragon .
- 1998 Consulted for a technical services company with Lockheed Georgia on
advanced C-130J development for a few weeks.
Specific Achievements: Supported over a thousand research and development
projects, ranging from major weapon systems to numerous smaller
projects, including several "firsts": military communications
satellite; tilt-rotor research aircraft; airborne chemical laser;
long-endurance drone; and airborne high-energy laser.
